Smart Home Design Consultation

Choose the right smart-home system, including renter-friendly options, and leave with a practical plan.

A smart home should feel simple for the people living in it. We’ll start with your phones, routines, Wi-Fi, privacy preferences, existing devices, and budget, then choose the ecosystem and equipment that make sense together instead of collecting products that do not cooperate.

Apple, Google, or Alexa?

Start with the household, not the logo.

Matter can help compatible products work across platforms, but the best everyday experience still depends on your phones, preferred voice assistant, existing devices, and the controls your household will actually use.

At a glance

Google Home

Best for
Android and Google-centered households, especially homes already using Nest.
Why choose it
Nest, Android, and Google TV fit naturally together, with strong voice control, routines, and presence-based actions.
Plan around
Some Nest features may still need a plan or separate app, and the exact hub model changes which features are available.
Core equipment
A compatible Nest speaker, display, or hub.
At a glance

Apple Home

Best for
Apple households that value a clean experience and privacy-centered design.
Why choose it
Everyday control from iPhone, Apple Watch, Apple TV, HomePod, and Siri, with encrypted Home data and eligible iCloud+ Secure Video options.
Plan around
Android access is limited, some controls may stay in manufacturer apps, and hub requirements depend on the accessories and automations.
Core equipment
A compatible HomePod or Apple TV home hub.
At a glance

Amazon Alexa

Best for
Existing Echo or eero homes and projects using a wide mix of device brands.
Why choose it
Broad device reach, a large Echo lineup, and flexible voice, schedule, and smart-device routines.
Plan around
Echo features vary by model, and extra brand accounts can add complexity if the system is not planned carefully.
Core equipment
A compatible Echo or eero; built-in hub features vary by model.
Renter-friendly by design

A smart home that can move when you do.

I can build a fully renter-friendly option around plug-in, battery-powered, freestanding, and removable devices—without drilling, hardwiring, or permanent changes. Take the system to your next home; after placing the devices and reconnecting them to the new Wi-Fi, another professional installation is typically not required.

Private setup & installation

One service, priced by device count.

I book the installation after the planning is complete. A paid Smart Home Design Consultation earns a full $149 credit. If we cover the planning at no added charge during another paid in-home visit, a $75 installation credit applies instead.

A straightforward plug-in, battery-powered, freestanding, or tabletop device counts as one device. A plug-in camera is not automatically a complex installation.

A camera that needs mounting, ladder work, drilling, cable routing, or wiring may count as two devices.

Thermostats, wired doorbells, and smart locks may count as two devices because setup usually includes more physical installation and testing.

After 15 devices, each additional block of up to three devices adds $200. I confirm the final count before scheduling the private installation.

A good fit when

You want the situation handled clearly.

What’s included

A defined service with a practical outcome.

Start with a focused in-home planning session before buying or installing smart-home devices. I’ll compare Apple Home, Google Home, and Amazon Alexa around your household, review your Wi-Fi and the devices you already own, and help map useful automations and a practical installation scope. Fully renter-friendly options use portable, removable devices designed to move with you. Setup and installation are scheduled privately afterward.

01

A 75-minute visit in your home focused on your household, goals, devices, Wi-Fi, and budget.

02

A side-by-side recommendation for Apple Home, Google Home, Amazon Alexa, or a carefully chosen mixed setup.

03

A practical device and automation plan, including compatibility and placement considerations.

04

A fully renter-friendly path when requested, using portable, removable devices designed to move with you.

05

A defined setup scope and device count so you know the installation price before it is scheduled.

The goal

You leave with a smart-home direction that fits your household, plus a clear path from planning to a professionally configured system.

Good to know

A booked Smart Home Design Consultation is $149 and the full payment is credited toward installation. If smart-home planning comes up while I’m already in your home for another paid service, I’ll include that planning conversation at no added charge and apply a $75 installation credit instead.

Common questions

Know what to expect before you book.

Where does the consultation take place?+

The consultation takes place in your home in the Tucson service area. You enter the home address while booking, and it becomes the service location for the appointment.

Is a separate consultation required before installation?+

Smart-home planning is required, but a separate paid appointment is not required when we complete that planning during another paid in-home visit. Otherwise, book the Smart Home Design Consultation so I can confirm the ecosystem, compatibility, Wi-Fi readiness, device count, and installation scope.

Does the $149 consultation fee go toward installation?+

Yes. If you proceed, the full $149 consultation payment is credited toward Smart Home Setup & Installation.

What if smart-home planning comes up during another in-home visit?+

If I’m already in your home for another paid service and smart-home planning comes up, I’ll include that planning conversation at no added charge. If you proceed with Smart Home Setup & Installation, a $75 credit applies instead of the $149 paid-consultation credit.

Can you install plug-in cameras?+

Yes. A straightforward plug-in or freestanding camera normally counts as one device. If it also needs mounting, ladder work, drilling, cable routing, or wiring, it may count as two.

How is installation booked?+

After the consultation, I confirm the device tier and schedule the private installation with you. There is no public self-booking link for installation.

When is payment due?+

For service totals of $800 or less, the remaining balance is due before installation. For totals over $800, you may pay in full or choose 50% before and 50% after completion. The applicable $149 or $75 planning credit counts toward the first payment.

Can I mix Apple, Google, and Alexa products?+

Sometimes, especially with Matter-compatible products, but a mixed home is not automatically simpler. I recommend it only when the benefits outweigh the extra apps, accounts, and compatibility checks.

Do you offer renter-friendly smart-home setups?+

Yes. I can design a fully renter-friendly setup around plug-in, battery-powered, freestanding, and removable devices, with no drilling, hardwiring, or permanent changes. The system is designed to move with you. At the next home, you typically only need to place and plug in the devices and reconnect them to the new Wi-Fi; another professional installation is not required.
